0.8.2 - the PHAT NUMBERS update


new things

  • added key rebinding
  • added power-up: swift shot

gameplay changes

  • player move speed increased again!! zooom
  • remaining friends on level clear are now automatically collected (previously were left behind forever)
  • you now lose 50% of your friends on death (was 100%), this should result in PHATTER numbers and MORE power-ups
  • power-ups now persist across levels
  • power-ups now last for 14 seconds (was 12)
  • power-up boxes are now very sparkly
  • piercing shot knockback increased, fire rate increased
  • extra lives are now granted every 30 friends (was 25)
  • level area is now wider (buff to personal space)
  • level generator difficulty constraints relaxed, this should result in some more challenging early levels, and occasional breather levels later on

smaller changes

  • gamepad face buttons can now be used to aim your power
  • entity wander move speed is now varied (was always max move speed)
  • wandering entities now get stuck less frequently on level edges/in corners
  • bulb starting and max move speed increased
  • mites no longer reward points after 1 minute, in case someone was thinking about farming them for literal days
  • devourer seek friend timer decreased to 3 seconds (was 3.5)
  • devoider seek friend timer decreased to 2.5 seconds (was 3.5)
  • devoider starting and max move speed increased
  • bombalob will keep their distance a little more to give you room to dodge the mortars
  • gluon mass decreased. they now fling about much quicker, watch out!

bugfixes

  • fixed one crash that sometimes occurred when beginning another run (there may still be other instances of this crash. if you encounter it, please let me know!)
  • fixed devourer and devoider seek friend timers not pausing


please note: this update will reset your hi-score, but your settings and stats will be safe <3

Actually I just tested on my laptop and although better, there
are still situations where it simply can not work. Namely, when
holding diagnostically/things that require multiple keys to be held.
This is definitely an issue with some laptop keyboards, it works
great on my desktop PC & keyboard.
It also works fine on my laptop with a joypad.
I am going to do some research to see if there's any way around it.
I have seen this issue solved before by reading the hardware in a
more direct way on things such as the Commodore 64 but I'm
not sure if this is possible on my laptop's keyboard matrix.
